Texas offers a variety of partial or total (absolute) exemptions from appraised property values used to determine local property taxes. Each link below will take you to your counties appraisal districts website where you can learn more about all the exemptions that are available to you.
The most common is the residential homestead exemption. This is a great opportunity for homeowners to offset our high property taxes. Here is what you need to know:
- Owner(s) must live in the property that they are requesting the exemption
- You must own AND reside at the property as your primary residence on January 1st of the application year
- Filing this exemption is free of charge
- Exemptions MUST be filed between January 1st and April 30th of the year which you are applying
